By Static Live Magazine – We don’t do politics. But sometimes the circus sets itself on fire.
Alright, we’ll say it up front—we’re an entertainment magazine. We don’t pick sides in politics because frankly, nobody wins when the crowd’s divided. Choosing red or blue means alienating half the audience, and let’s be honest: American politics has devolved into a ridiculous, bad-scripted tennis match with reality barely clinging to the net.
But every now and then, something so absurd happens that we have no choice but to pause the music and ask, what in the actual F is going on?
Enter: Donald Trump, NATO, and Usher’s “Hey Daddy.”
This week, the official White House X account (yes, the one your taxes help fund) posted a video montage of Trump arriving at the NATO Summit, paired—without irony—with Usher’s 2010 R&B banger “Hey Daddy (Daddy’s Home).”
🎶 “Daddy’s home… hey, hey, hey, Daddy…” 🎶
Yup. That actually happened.
The video went viral faster than a backstage slap at the VMAs. It wasn’t just the song choice—it was the setup. Earlier that day, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte referred to Trump as “Daddy” during a bilateral meeting. And instead of moving past it like any normal human adult, the former president embraced the nickname like he was auditioning for a VH1 reality reboot.
“Daddy has to sometimes use strong language to get them to stop,” Rutte said, talking about the Israel-Iran tensions.
Trump: “You have to use strong language… Every so often, you have to use a certain word.”
Later, Trump added: “He did it very affectionately, ‘Daddy, you’re my Daddy.’”
We’re not making this up. This was said. On the record. With cameras. At a NATO summit.
And to cap it off, the White House dropped the whole saga over a slow-motion highlight reel with Usher crooning in the background like it was a late-night Cinemax rerun. Whoever’s running their social team? Give them a raise—or maybe a timeout.
Here at Static Live, we normally keep our heads in the music and our feet off the soapbox. But when international diplomacy starts sounding like a bad club remix, we have to chime in. This isn’t politics. This is parody. And somehow, it’s real life.
