In a recent act of solidarity with the ongoing 2023 Writers Strike, the iconic band Weezer delivered a captivating acoustic performance right outside Paramount Studios’ primary entrance on May 17th. The band’s actions come as a response to the call for just contracts by several unions championing the rights of television and film writers.
The band, with its lead singer Rivers Cuomo, guitarist Brian Bell, and bassist Scott Shriner, regaled the Writers Guild of America (WGA) picket line with an intimate rendition of three of their most popular songs – “Beverly Hills,” “Island in the Sun,” and “Buddy Holly.” Their performance was recorded in a video clip shared by TMZ.
Keen to show their support and lighten the mood of those demonstrating, Shriner said post-performance, “We wanted to try to support you guys and do something fun since you’re standing out here all day.” When asked about their favorite television shows or films, Shriner voiced his love for Game of Thrones, while Bell listed Dave and Succession among his favorites. Cuomo, on the other hand, is a fan of The Mandalorian.
In 2022, Weezer graced their fans with four unique EPs, each one symbolizing a different season. Their latest album, Van Weezer, is a nod to classic rock and hard rock and is the fifteenth in their collection of studio LPs. Fans can look forward to seeing the band perform live on their extensive summer tour, where they’ll be joined by Modest Mouse, Spoon, Future Islands, Momma, among other acts, starting from next month.
