By Static Live Magazine – Fueled by sarcasm, speed riffs, and 3AM Taco Bell regret.
What do you get when you mix hardcore punk, America’s favorite skateboard dad, and late-night fast food that doubles as bad decisions in a paper bag?
A glorious, crunchy, slightly greasy new Taco Bell commercial starring Tony Hawk and Turnstile, that’s what.
That’s right. Our favorite high-flying, GameShark-code of a human just dropped in—literally—in a new 30-second national ad for Taco Bell’s Build Your Own Luxe Cravings Box. And who’s soundtracking this spicy skate moment? None other than Turnstile, the Baltimore hardcore outfit we’ve been screaming about since their first EP punched us in the ears.
The spot features not one but two Turnstile bangers—“SEEIN’ STARS” and “BIRDS”—from their latest dual-single rollout ahead of their new album NEVER ENOUGH.
In the ad, a bunch of Gen Z skaters are posted up on a ramp, shoveling Taco Bell into their faces like it’s the only thing left after a night of moshing and ghosting their exes. Suddenly, one of them spots a legend and delivers the line that’ll echo through commercials forever:
“Is that Tony Hawk?”
Spoiler: It is. And yes, he drops in with the kind of grace that says, “I invented this and I’m still cooler than all of you.”
Meanwhile, Turnstile’s riffs tear through the speakers like a semi-truck through a DIY venue wall. It’s high-energy, low-budget chaos—the best kind.
Let’s pause here for a quick Static Live flashback:
The day Doritos Locos Tacos dropped, I (Shane) took my three sons to Taco Bell and bought 48 tacos. Not 4. Not 14. Forty-eight. We ate like we were starring in our own punk rock mukbang. It was disgusting. It was beautiful. It was necessary.
Back to the commercial—Tony even has his own custom Luxe Cravings Box with a cheese quesadilla, a crunchy taco, and whatever else keeps 56-year-old knees from giving out mid-kickflip. You can snag it for a few bucks or a few thousand sats if you’re Bitcoin-core like us.
And Turnstile? They’re not just background noise here. This is a full-on moment. Their Roadrunner Records release NEVER ENOUGH dropped earlier this month, and they’re about to hit the road on a North American headlining tour this fall with openers like Amyl and The Sniffers, Mannequin Pussy, and Blood Orange—because punk isn’t dead, it’s just on a split EP with R&B.
They’re kicking it all off in Orlando, Florida on October 19. (Yes, Florida friends—mark your Static Live Music Calendar App now.)
If you didn’t already love Turnstile, this might do it. And if you didn’t love Tony Hawk… well, you’re probably dead inside.
