Music enthusiasts are buzzing about Troye Sivan‘s latest masterpiece, ‘Something to Give Each Other,’ which he describes as a celebration of “human connections, unity, and sheer joy.” In a recent chat on the Billboard Pop Shop Podcast, Troye shared insights about his journey crafting this album and how Janet Jackson’s music left an indelible mark on his artistic soul.
Diving deep into his album-making experience, Sivan mentioned the project was developed “over an extended period,” and encapsulated “moments of immense joy from the past few years.” He emphasized a distinct shift in his musical demeanor, transitioning from a “melancholic warmth” to pure, invigorating warmth.
Reflecting on Janet Jackson’s influence, Troye revealed how witnessing her mesmerizing performance at the Hollywood Bowl transported him back to childhood. He said, “Hearing ‘Together Again’ at such a young age reshaped my musical journey profoundly. The warmth and melody from that song inspired the warmth I wanted my album to emanate.”
His single “Rush” set the tone, quickly ascending to Billboard’s Global 200 and the U.S. Hot 100 charts, captivating fans with its rhythmic beats and compelling music video crafted by the duo, Gordon von Steiner and Stuart Winecoff.
Despite the challenges and constant reminders of dwindling music video budgets, Sivan remained undeterred, sharing, “I persevered, envisioning grand music videos akin to the pop legends of yore. I’m genuinely thankful the ‘Rush’ video surpassed my expectations and reached a vast audience.”
Post ‘Rush’, Sivan released two vibrant tracks with accompanying visuals: “Got Me Started,” capturing the essence of Bangkok, and “One of Your Girls,” presenting a refreshing perspective with co-star, Ross Lynch.
When queried about future concert plans, Sivan expressed both excitement and apprehension. He aspires to deliver an epic pop performance the album truly deserves, sharing, “I genuinely want this to be my lifetime’s best tour. However, realizing this dream is an enormous undertaking. Hence, I’m taking a moment to reflect and strategize.”
The podcast episode also covered chart updates, including Drake’s double-header No. 1 spots and insights from the Madonna and Taylor Swift concert experiences.
