Travis Scott knows how to stir the pot—and this time, he’s done it with a touch of class. In the freshly dropped, Harmony Korine-directed trailer for Jackboys 2, Scott tosses out a smooth line: “I blige bumping Mary.” That’s right, Travis just name-checked none other than Mary J. Blige, aka the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul, aka music royalty. And guess what? Mary noticed.
Taking to X (yeah, Twitter’s cooler, chaotic twin), Mary dropped a sly “I see what he did there” with a mix of laughing and smiling emojis. Translation: she’s here for it.
This is no small co-sign. Mary J. has decades of dominance under her belt, and for Travis to lace her name into his bars? That’s a smart flex, a bridge between generations, and a reminder that real recognizes real.
While Scott fans were hyped for a possible Jackboys 2 drop on his 34th birthday, the album didn’t surface just yet (classic Travis move). But the man’s been busy: he and Sheck Wes lit up “ILMB” last month, and Scott even previewed some unreleased heat during his Coachella set—though Goldenvoice wasn’t laughing when they got slapped with a $20K fine for Travis blowing past curfew. Rock star stuff.
On the merch side, Scott’s online store has already gone nuclear with pre-orders, vinyl, box sets, and alt-cover CDs for Jackboys 2. Fans are eating it up like it’s Astroworld all over again.
For those keeping score, the first Jackboys project dropped in late 2019, hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and featured a stacked lineup including Don Toliver, Sheck Wes, Rosalía, Lil Baby, Quavo, Offset, Young Thug, and the late Pop Smoke. You can bet Jackboys 2 will be aiming even higher.
