Leave it to Tom DeLonge — rock icon, Blink-182 guitarist, and resident UFO investigator — to come to the table when weird stuff starts happening in New Jersey skies. If anyone’s got a handle on aliens and unexplainable tech, it’s the guy who ditched mainstream rock to search for extraterrestrials and still managed to headline Coachella. Respect.
Over the past few weeks, reports of strange drone sightings in New Jersey (and surrounding states) have been popping up like conspiracy theories at a midnight diner. People say these “drones” can hover for six hours and vanish faster than that ex you blocked. Even weirder? Some eyewitnesses claim the drones are diving into the ocean and resurfacing — aka “transmedium travel,” a fancy sci-fi term for moving between air and water like a pro. Naturally, DeLonge, forever the ambassador of UFO awareness, chimed in via Instagram with his take.
“These drones are tricky,” DeLonge wrote, suggesting they could be mimicking other aircraft. (Yeah, they’re playing copycat.) He referenced eerie parallels to UFO reports from the 1960s — when strange objects in the sky made headlines, and paranoia reached Area 51 levels. In classic DeLonge style, he speculated: “Why mimicry? To get us to notice them without totally freaking us out? Who knows… but we are noticing nonetheless.”
Meanwhile, the powers-that-be are, predictably, downplaying the sightings. The White House’s National Security Advisor, John Kirby, chalked it up to “misidentified aircraft.” New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy reported a staggering 50 sightings in just one week. If nothing else, it’s keeping the coffee-guzzling Garden State on high alert.
So, are these drones tech marvels, bored billionaires with new toys, or just something far spookier? Tom DeLonge isn’t saying aliens (yet), but he’s also not not saying it. For now, we’ll all just keep looking up and wondering if New Jersey’s skies are the next stop on an intergalactic tour.
Stay weird, Garden State.
