The Times They Are A-Changin’ is Bob Dylan’s 1964 album and the title couldn’t be more true as it relates to this news.
The Fender Precision bass that was smashed during a show by The Clash’s Paul Simonon at New York’s Palladium in Sept. 1979 will officially go on display at the Museum of London later this year. While for years the album itself was banned from being played on English radio stations it seems now that it’s a permanent part of history.
The iconic image of Simonon swinging his instrument and driving it into the stage is now a piece of artwork. The image of him doing this act was used as the cover of the punk group’s 1979 London Calling album which was also voted album of the decade by Rolling Stone Magazine.
The image here was recreated for Static Live Magazine’s July 2018 issue by New Smyrna Beach photographer Stephen Holvik.
