The Grammy Museum has recently received a significant donation from The Ray Charles Foundation, amounting to a generous $2 million. This substantial contribution is aimed at supporting the museum’s Campaign for Music Education, an initiative launched in October 2022.
This campaign is focused on enhancing the museum’s educational offerings, particularly the Grammy in the Schools program. The initiative has garnered the support of various music icons, including Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Bruno Mars, Shawn Mendes, and Rosalía, who serve as its co-chairs.
Michael Sticka, President and CEO of the Grammy Museum, expressed gratitude for the foundation’s support, stating, “As we mark our 15th Anniversary, our commitment to expanding music education has never been stronger. The Ray Charles Foundation’s generous donation significantly furthers our mission to provide educational opportunities and nurture a passion for music in the next generation.”
Valerie Ervin, President of The Ray Charles Foundation, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the foundation’s mission to empower youth through education and its alignment with the museum’s educational goals.
The Ray Charles Foundation, known for its contributions to hearing disorder research and youth education through educational institutions and non-profit programs, has made this donation to further its commitment to these causes.
As a token of appreciation and to commemorate this meaningful partnership, the Grammy Museum will rename its rooftop terrace to The Ray Charles Terrace at the Grammy Museum. This renaming ceremony is scheduled as an official Grammy week event on January 29. It will feature a ribbon-cutting hosted by Jimmy Jam, music curated by DJ Khalil, and a special performance by Aloe Blacc. The terrace, which offers stunning views of downtown Los Angeles and the Hollywood sign, hosts over 150 events annually and is a significant venue for the museum.
The partnership between the Ray Charles Foundation and the Grammy Museum signifies a powerful collaboration in the field of music education, ensuring that the legacy of music continues to inspire and educate future generations.
