Swift tops the celebrity list for CO2 emissions

Taylor Swift’s team has defended the singer after she was named one of the top 10 celebrity CO2e offenders for private jet use. In a statement, Swift’s publicist said the singer used private jets “when it was necessary to ensure her safety and the safety of her family.” The statement went on to say that Swift “offset” her carbon emissions from travel “through confirmed purchases of carbon units.” However, critics say that offsetting does not cancel out the emissions from private jet travel and that celebrities should be doing more to reduce their carbon footprints. Taylor Swift topped the list with 170 flights in private jets, followed by Kylie Jenner with 141 flights and Leonardo DiCaprio with 118 flights.
