If the world’s going to be saved, it might as well have a killer playlist — and luckily, Shakira and The Weeknd just joined the lineup.
That’s right. The Latin goddess of hip-shaking glory and the Canadian prince of moody perfection are teaming up with FIFA and the Global Citizen Education Fund to give kids worldwide a better shot at education. Oh, and they’re doing it alongside an eclectic crew that includes Ivanka Trump, Serena Williams, Hugh Jackman, Gianni Infantino, and a few other names you might recognize. (Because apparently saving the world requires both superheroes and pop stars.)
The goal? A cool $100 million to fund education programs for over 100,000 children in more than 200 communities around the globe — basically, a global tour for good vibes and brighter futures.
Shakira’s no stranger to using her fame for good — she’s been an education advocate longer than TikTok’s been a thing. And The Weeknd? He’s been blending art and activism since he dropped After Hours and took over haunted houses at Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights in 2024. (Yes, we’re still talking about that. It was that good.)
Now, these two chart-topping legends are lending their star power to Global Citizen’s partnership with FIFA ahead of the 2026 World Cup — which, by the way, is already promising a Coldplay halftime show curated by Chris Martin. (Don’t worry, we’re hoping Shakira shows up and steals the stage again. Those hips still don’t lie.)
Between Hips Don’t Lie, Blinding Lights, and Serena Williams serving as the real-world embodiment of “unstoppable energy,” this board has enough power to reboot humanity itself.
And while we might joke about world leaders and pop stars mixing business with ballads, this initiative is actually doing some serious good. With 350 million children currently out of school worldwide, it’s about time the world put some rhythm behind its compassion.
So here’s to Shakira — drop-dead gorgeous, unstoppable, and proving that real power moves come from both the heart and the hips — and The Weeknd, who’s making sure the world’s future sounds as good as it looks.
