This extensive project begins with the remastered release of their 1979 album, Horizon Unlimited, now available on digital streaming platforms and set for physical release in September.
Identical twins Taiwo and Kehinde Lijadu, who emerged as significant figures in Nigeria’s music scene, were not just musicians but also vocal advocates for social issues, blending genres like Afrobeat, reggae, and disco to create a unique sound. Their music often carried messages about gender equality and social justice, resonating deeply across borders.
The partnership aims to rectify past injustices concerning the duo’s intellectual property rights and unpaid royalties, as highlighted by numerous cases of their music being used without proper credit. This reissue campaign promises to restore their legacy appropriately, providing new generations access to their groundbreaking works.
The remastering of Horizon Unlimited is undertaken by five-time Grammy-winning engineer Michael Graves. The album’s re-release will feature original artwork, the first-ever transcription of the lyrics in Yoruba and English, and corrected album credits, encapsulating the essence of the Lijadu Sisters’ artistic vision.
Looking forward, Numero Group plans to reissue all the duo’s albums along with a collection of previously unavailable singles, promo EPs, and rare recordings.
