The Grammy-award winning rock group, Imagine Dragons, took a stand on the picket lines this Tuesday in solidarity with the ongoing writers strike targeting Netflix. The Las Vegas natives, now residing in Los Angeles, including pianist Dan Reynolds and electric guitarist Daniel Wayne Sermon, serenaded the crowd with their renowned hits, “Radioactive” and “Whatever It Takes.”
Imagine Dragons joins a list of high-profile figures who have made appearances at strike venues in both Los Angeles and New York City, expressing their support for the cause. Notable supporters include Pete Davidson, who distributed pizzas in Greenpoint, Brooklyn; the writers and stars of Ted Lasso, including Jason Sudeikis, Brett Goldstein, and Brendan Hunt; Cynthia Nixon; Bowen Yang; and even Jay Leno, who delivered donuts to the Los Angeles strikers.
The band’s display of solidarity comes amidst their ongoing Mercury World Tour, which began in Miami in February 2022 and is set to conclude at Berlin’s Lollapalooza in September 2023. The tour promotes their fifth and sixth studio albums, Mercury – Acts 1 (2021) and 2 (2022).
The strike, which started nine days ago, ensued after the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers failed to reach an agreement. This resulted in guild members and other supporters picketing outside major studios and streaming platforms for the first time in 15 years.
During a recent WGA meeting, a showrunner passionately stated, “We are at war with the studios. We can’t be at war one day and be their partners the next,” signifying the level of commitment and determination from the writers-producers involved in the strike.
