Look, we’ve all had rough days at work. But most of us don’t walk away thinking, “Yeah, I’m owed not less than ten million bucks.” Yet here we are — thanks to one very ambitious limo driver who’s taking Post Malone to court for allegedly not getting paid for his cameo in the 2020 Tommy Lee music video.
According to court documents, driver Larry Deuel claims he was originally just hired to chauffeur Post and collaborator Tyla Yaweh out to the rapper’s ranch. But when the cameras started rolling, the story goes that Malone and Yaweh asked him to step into the shot — because apparently, nothing says “rockstar excess” quite like a slightly confused limo driver holding the keys.
Deuel’s now seeking over $10 million in damages (yep, million) for what he says was an unpaid appearance. That includes at least $2.5 million in “principal damages,” another $7.5 million in “punitive damages,” and $25K for legal fees. All that for standing beside a limo while Post and Tyla smoked blunts and pretended to be rich cowboys.
To quote the lawsuit itself: “Absent Mr. Deuel’s presence… the theme of wealth, power, fame, privilege, and success would have been visually underwhelming.” Bold statement, but sure — because clearly the only thing holding that video together wasn’t Post Malone, Tyla Yaweh, or the actual song Tommy Lee (which hit the Billboard Hot 100, by the way). It was Larry and his Lincoln. Watch the video below and tell us what you think, did he improve the video?
We’re all for artists getting paid, but this one’s a stretch. Honestly, if we were Larry, we’d just slap “Featured in Post Malone’s Tommy Lee video” on our business card and watch the bookings roll in. That’s better marketing than most agencies can buy (except, of course, for Electric Web Services 😉).
Either way, Post — if you’re reading this, maybe just toss the guy a settlement and a bottle of rosé. You can afford it.
