The anticipation surrounding pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo’s latest single “Vampire,” set to release this summer, has sparked a whirlwind of Twilight-themed jests from celebrities, including Taylor Lautner and Conan Gray. The chatter began shortly after the 20-year-old artist shared her upcoming track’s details on an Instagram post on June 13.
The black and white cover art, featuring Rodrigo with a bandage-covered vampire bite on her neck, immediately had fans and celebrities linking it to the popular Twilight saga. The post has already accumulated nearly four million likes and tens of thousands of comments within a day, including a humorous one from Lautner himself, who was part of Twilight’s main love triangle as Jacob Black. “K WHO TF BIT YOU,” the actor jokingly asked.
Conan Gray, Rodrigo’s best friend and a fellow pop star on the rise, didn’t miss out on the fun. He quoted one of the iconic lines from the Twilight movie series, originally delivered by Kristen Stewart’s character, Bella: “i know what you are…,” followed by a vampire emoji.
Furthermore, Gray posted a do-it-yourself meme on his Instagram story, replacing the word “Vampire” in a Twilight movie subtitle with “Olivia Rodrigo’s new single”. This was later shared by Rodrigo on her Instagram story.
But the Twilight references didn’t end there. The official account for Lionsgate, the studio behind the Twilight film series, joined the banter with a comment quoting a line from the first movie, “SAY IT!! OUT LOUD!!”
Rodrigo, a self-proclaimed Twilight fan, would undoubtedly appreciate the jesting. She’s previously shared a song inspired by the series, referred to by fans as “The Twilight Song,” and even speculated that her song “Traitor” from her 2021 debut album Sour would be Jacob Black’s favourite. Moreover, Rodrigo and Gray had a fun time reenacting a scene from the film series last year.
