Noel Gallagher, the creative force behind Oasis, has taken his iconic track “Champagne Supernova” to an entirely new level. Known for its dreamy, atmospheric quality, “Champagne Supernova” is now reimagined as a six-hour ambient experience. This extended version will be featured as part of the Legends exhibition at London’s National Portrait Gallery, adding a sonic layer to the gallery’s collection of influential figures.
The upcoming Legends exhibition, which opens on November 29 and runs through March 2, will showcase over 100 portraits by renowned photographer Zoë Law. These portraits capture celebrated personalities across art, fashion, business, and entertainment. Featured among them are portraits of England’s World Cup legend Sir Bobby Charlton, actress Kim Cattrall, actor Orlando Bloom, and of course, Noel Gallagher himself. One striking portrait includes actress Sienna Miller holding Gallagher’s famous 1967 Epiphone guitar, the very instrument used in crafting the original “Champagne Supernova.”
Originally released in 1995 as the final track on Oasis’s legendary album (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, “Champagne Supernova” became an anthem of the era, dominating the Alternative Airplay chart for five weeks in 1996. This new, ambient version invites listeners to immerse themselves in its lengthened, meditative sounds.
Gallagher’s latest project comes on the heels of a momentous year for Oasis. In an unexpected twist, the band announced a reunion earlier this year, sparking massive excitement among fans. Their 2025 U.K. tour dates sold out instantly, followed by an announcement of five North American dates set for August and September, with stops in cities like Chicago, New Jersey, and California. In their announcement, Oasis teased, “America. Oasis is coming. You have one last chance to prove that you loved us all along.”
While the Oasis reunion tour is highly anticipated, it hasn’t been without controversy. The use of dynamic pricing in the U.K. sparked backlash from fans, with many expressing frustration over fluctuating ticket prices. However, Oasis assured fans that this practice would not be implemented for their North American dates. The band acknowledged, “Dynamic pricing can help prevent ticket scalping and make tickets more affordable for many fans, but overwhelming demand combined with technical limitations can create an unsatisfactory experience.”
As Gallagher prepares to share his ambient masterpiece at the National Portrait Gallery, fans can look forward to a new way to experience the music of Oasis, even as they await the upcoming reunion tour.
