Rock veteran Neil Young has made a significant move by distancing himself from Elon Musk’s X, the platform formerly recognized as Twitter. Young, in a recent statement on his website, expressed his decision to halt any support for the platform, citing concerns over Musk’s recent actions and statements.
In his statement, Young highlighted, “We are ceasing all usage of X that is within our control. Due to reasons that the wealthiest man on Earth should understand, we are initiating action against his company.” Accompanying his statement was an image of Musk with a message urging Tesla to promote a message of love rather than hate.
Young’s call extends beyond just corporate actions. He appealed to both Palestinian and Jewish communities, urging them to come together and focus on a united future: “For our many Palestinian friends and our many Jewish friends, it is time to begin anew in the present and let go of our dreadful past ties. As challenging as it may be, forgetting them is essential for our collective freedom to progress in life, united as humanity, in our pursuit to safeguard our planet for all future generations.”
This move comes in the wake of Musk’s endorsement of a controversial tweet, which drew widespread criticism, including from the White House. The tweet implied Jewish people were exacerbating antisemitism during the Israel-Hamas conflict and promoting immigration of numerous minorities. Musk later clarified his stance, denying any antisemitic intentions and expressing his best wishes for all humanity.
Meanwhile, Young continues to influence the music scene. He recently announced the release of his new album, ‘Before and After,’ scheduled for December 8. The album promises a fresh perspective on some of Young’s lesser-known tracks, aiming to offer an immersive listening experience against the backdrop of digital music consumption trends.
