Just when you thought late-night TV couldn’t get any weirder, Morgan Wallen pulled a full-blown Irish goodbye on Saturday Night Live. After delivering two solid performances from his upcoming album I’m the Problem—and sharing a hug with host Mikey Madison—the mullet-rocking crooner whispered something in her ear and peaced out before the credits even rolled. No big farewell, no wave to the crowd, just… vanished.
Moments later, he posted a snapshot from his private jet with the words, “Get me to God’s country,” scrawled across the photo like a lost Luke Combs lyric.
Cue the internet meltdown.
Some fans were quick to blast the move as disrespectful to the SNL tradition, calling it “lame” and “underwhelming” for someone repping country on such a big stage. Others said he clearly didn’t want to be there to begin with and probably got strong-armed by his management into doing it.
Let’s be real though—Wallen’s never exactly played by the rules. This is the same guy who got booted from SNL in 2020 for breaking COVID protocol, only to later make fun of himself in a sketch on the show. Rebel brand intact, I guess?
Despite the drama, he performed “Just in Case” and the album’s title track, both dripping with breakup fuel and backwoods bravado. The album I’m the Problem drops May 16—and something tells us Wallen’s not losing any sleep over the haters.
Also worth noting: the rest of the SNL season is stacked, with upcoming appearances from Lizzo, Elton John, Brandi Carlile, Jon Hamm, and Jack Black. If Morgan wanted out before Brandi showed him what real stage presence looks like, we wouldn’t blame him.
