Madonna, the Queen of Pop, is reimagining how she tells her life story in her highly anticipated biopic. After years of creative hurdles, she’s now questioning whether a multi-part series might be a better fit for the scope of her journey than a traditional feature film.
The legendary artist took to Instagram on Monday (Nov. 18), sharing a series of reflective selfies and images, opening up about the challenges of bringing her story to the big screen. “After struggling for days in LA, listening to producers and agents tell me why I couldn’t make my film — I’ve been working on it for four years! — I realized that everything in my life is going to be challenged,” she began in her heartfelt caption.
Madonna revealed that the creative process, combined with input from her team and conversations with artistic friends, has forced her to think outside the box. “I did not have a normal life. I cannot make this in the normal way,” she explained, emphasizing that her story deserves a unique and expansive approach.
She went on to share a message of empowerment: “We cannot shrink and make ourselves smaller. If you want something badly enough in life, the whole universe will conspire to help you get it.” Madonna then turned to her fans for advice, asking them directly whether they believe the story of her life would be better as a multi-part series or a single feature film.
The comment section was quickly flooded with responses, with the majority of fans encouraging her to explore a series format. Many agreed that a series would allow her incredible career and personal life to be explored in greater depth, giving audiences a more intimate look into her extraordinary journey.
The biopic, first announced in 2020, was initially planned as a film covering Madonna’s iconic career. At one point, Inventing Anna star Julia Garner was rumored to have been cast to portray the music legend. However, the project hit pause in 2023 as Madonna shifted her focus to her global Celebration Tour.
In a sign that the biopic remains close to her heart, Madonna shared updates in July 2024, posting photos of herself working on a typewriter. The images showed her editing a script titled Who’s That Girl, seemingly referencing her 1987 hit song and film of the same name. The blurred script in the photos hints at an ongoing evolution of the project.
For now, fans remain eager to see how Madonna will bring her life story to the screen. Whether it becomes a feature film or a sprawling series, one thing is certain: the Queen of Pop’s journey is anything but ordinary.
