This New Music Friday brings a shower of rhythm and melody, featuring brand-new releases from chart-topping artists such as Billie Eilish, Post Malone, and a surprising duo – BTS’s Jung Kook and Latto.
Billie Eilish, the pop sensation, delivers an emotional track for the much-anticipated Barbie movie soundtrack. In her latest offering “What Was I Made For?”, Eilish delves into introspection and existentialism, mirroring the character arc of Margot Robbie’s Barbie in the film. The poignant lyrics (“Takin’ a drive, I was an ideal/ Looked so alive, turns out I’m not real/ Just somethin’ you paid for/ What was I made for?”) promise to resonate with audiences and perhaps bring a tear to the eye when played during the movie.
Meanwhile, Post Malone returns to the spotlight with yet another single from his self-titled album. His new track, “Overdrive,” is accompanied by a vibrant 14-piece string orchestra, painting a vivid picture of his longing to rekindle a dying relationship and his feelings of isolation.
The surprise collaboration of the week comes from BTS’s Jung Kook and Latto with their new song “Seven”. Contrary to what one might expect, Jung Kook’s lyrics are not referring to his fellow BTS members but instead to the seven days of the week that he devotes to the one he loves (or “f–kin’,” if you’re playing the alternate version). Latto contributes her own playful banter, making the track a catchy and flirtatious delight.
The musical banquet this week also includes fresh tracks from Lil Tjay, Karol G, a collaboration between Coco Jones and Justin Timberlake, as well as Troye Sivan. With such a diverse and exciting array of choices, we’re curious: which new release tops your list? Feel free to cast your vote in the poll below.
