#LadyGaga took a trip down memory lane, reflecting on her deep connection with the late music icon, #TonyBennett, who passed away on July 21 at the ripe age of 96. In an interview revisited by People Magazine, Gaga revealed a special tribute to Bennett she keeps with her at all times: a tattoo.
“In 2014, I asked Tony to create a trumpet sketch for me,” the pop superstar reminisced, “He then drew me Miles Davis’ trumpet which I had inked on my skin, adding his surname, Benedetto, beneath it. This way, our shared moments will always be with me.”
The pair had a unique bond, their friendship immortalized in the 2014 jazz album, ‘Cheek to Cheek’, which topped the Billboard 200 albums chart. Despite Bennett’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis in 2016, their creative partnership persisted, producing a second jazz album, ‘Love for Sale’ in 2021.
Gaga warmly remembered their initial meeting: “Tony heard me singing ‘Orange Colored Sky’ and sought me out. He proposed we make a jazz album together. Naturally, I agreed, and our friendship blossomed instantly.”
In 2021, Bennett made public his retirement from touring and performing, with a final performance that August at Radio City Music Hall alongside Gaga, aptly titled “One Last Time.
