Jason Momoa returned to ‘Saturday Night Live’ with a bang, transforming into a rapping Roman gladiator in a side-splitting skit. Hosting the show for his second time, Momoa demonstrated his comedic prowess and love for the Roman Empire in a sketch that hilariously parodied a current TikTok trend.
The skit, titled “Roman Song,” begins with Momoa’s character lost in thought, much to the concern of his partner, played by Ego Nwodim. When she inquires what’s on his mind, Momoa’s character enthusiastically responds, “the Roman Empire, ancient Rome!” The scene then shifts to him donned as a gladiator, energetically rapping about his fascination with this historical era.
Momoa’s gladiator character passionately raps, “Five times a day, thoughts of Rome hit my dome, where they built the first dome,” backed by a troupe of dancing soldiers. He continues with humorous bars, expressing his admiration for historical figures like Julius Caesar and Romulus.
Joining the fun, ‘SNL’ cast members Mikey Day and Kenan Thompson also drift into daydreams about the ancient city, much to the dismay of their partners.
The episode also highlighted the musical talent of Tate McRae, the recent ‘Billboard’ cover star, making her ‘SNL’ debut. McRae performed her hit “Greedy” and the new ballad “Grave.” She’s poised to bring “Greedy” to the Billboard Music Awards stage, where the song currently ranks No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100.
