From Virtual to Vital: Gorillaz Celebrate 25 Years With Live Shows, an Immersive Fan Exhibit, and a New Album—But Where’s the U.S. Date?
Hold on to your vinyl copies of Demon Days and brace your animated souls, because the one and only Gorillaz are going full bananas for their 25th anniversary—and we couldn’t be more hyped… or slightly heartbroken.
The genre-mashing, cartoon-crafted legends fronted by Damon Albarn and visual mastermind Jamie Hewlett are officially rolling out the red carpet (probably illustrated) for House of Kong, an immersive exhibition diving deep into the band’s two-and-a-half decades of sonic weirdness, cultural relevance, and digital disruption. From “Clint Eastwood” to “Cracker Island,” you’ll get a peek inside the virtual HQ of Murdoc, 2D, Noodle, and Russel—finally proving that Gorillaz lore is just as deep as their basslines.
Even better? Four exclusive live shows at London’s Copper Box Arena (Aug. 29, 30, and Sept. 2, 3). Expect chaos. Expect hits. Expect no shows in the U.S. (yet). And yes, that last bit stings. A lot.
Tickets to the House of Kong experience come with exclusive presale access to the arena gigs, because Gorillaz know how to make you feel like a VIP even if you live 4,000 miles away and have never seen them live (not bitter, just saying).
Oh—and before you even finish emotionally preparing for this exhibit/concert/fever dream, Albarn confirmed a brand-new Gorillaz album is on the way for 2025. That’s right, while most bands slow down at 25, Gorillaz are doubling down with operas and chart-crushers. According to a cheeky update from Hewlett via Instagram DMs, the album is just weeks away from completion. If we don’t get at least one song that turns our brains into rainbow static, we’ll be shocked.
And for those of us here in Florida—shoutout to Daytona Beach, Ormond, Flagler, and New Smyrna, where our Static Live app is keeping your music schedule tight—we’re dropping the mic and making a heartfelt plea: Gorillaz, bring the madness to America. Better yet, bring it to Welcome to Rockville. You’d fit right in between Slipknot and Green Day, and we’d build you a Kong-sized stage.
Until then, we’ll be obsessing over House of Kong, refreshing our passports, and praying that Albarn’s opera doesn’t steal all his touring energy.
Download the Static Live app to keep track of concerts, local shows, and festival news across Florida’s east coast. Whether you’re sweating it out at Rockville or catching surprise gigs at local dives, we’ve got your weekend plans covered.
