Because nothing says “we’ve learned from our mistakes” like throwing another luxury music festival with zero permits and a convicted felon at the helm, Fyre Festival 2 is trying again—this time in… actually, we don’t even know where anymore.
Just a month out from the supposed kickoff, the internet’s favorite cautionary tale lost its announced location in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. Why? Because apparently, the local government said they have no clue what you’re talking about. No permits. No records. No event.
Still, in typical Billy McFarland fashion, the team insists, “Fyre Festival 2 is still on.” They’re just, you know, “vetting new locations.” Translation: it’s probably headed to a Kinko’s parking lot near you.
Let’s not forget, this is the same guy who served six years in prison for the first Fyre Fest meltdown in 2017. Remember the FEMA tents, sad cheese sandwiches, no bands, and influencers crying into their luxury duffels? Yeah. That was this guy. And now he wants a second chance. Because of course he does.
Even after being told by officials that no permits were granted, McFarland insisted he had paperwork—and in an ironic twist, some of that documentation revealed the original event was capped at 250 people for just 12 hours. You know, just slightly off from the massive weekend-long fest for 1,800 ticket holders he promised.
We could go on (and we will), but here’s the breakdown of what was promised:
- A weekend of music, fashion, food, treasure hunting (???)
- VIP tickets ranging from $1,400 to $1.1 million
- No actual artist lineup
- No functioning venue
- No confirmed permits
- And a whole lot of “trust us, bro.”
Honestly, if this wasn’t so absurd, it would be a great Black Mirror episode.
Meanwhile, Static Live Magazine would like to kindly remind you that real music festivals do still exist—ones that won’t strand you on a sandbar with a soggy mattress. Take, for example, Welcome to Rockville, where the lineup slaps, the bathrooms exist, and the cheese is actually melted.
And guess what? You can win free tickets to Welcome to Rockville just by downloading the Static Live Music Calendar App, built to help you find legit live music in Daytona Beach, New Smyrna Beach, Flagler, and Ormond Beach. We’ve got shows, updates, giveaways, and zero federal charges.
Let’s leave the grifting to the documentaries, shall we?
