Elton John Loses a Bet, Hands Lola Young the Keys to His House

Elton John has done just about everything: sold 300 million records, racked up five Grammys, a Tony, two Oscars, and a Kennedy Center Honor, and oh yeah, he’s one of the rare EGOT club members. But now he’s also the guy who just lost his house to a rising star because of a bet.

In a video that feels like it belongs on MTV’s Cribs: Wrong Turn Edition, Elton sheepishly handed the keys to Lola Young after her single Dealer failed to hit No. 1. That’s right — no chart-topper, no problem, here’s the spare key. Sir Elton shrugged and said, “Me and my big mouth.”

Young didn’t miss a beat. With Elton’s arm around her like a dad who just realized he gave away the family car, Lola deadpanned, “Yeah, I know, I’ve been waiting.” Cold. As. Ice. When Elton asked if he and David Furnish could still crash occasionally, Lola shot back, “No, sorry, it’s mine now.” Absolute savage.

Of course, this wasn’t some random TikTok prank. Elton has been hyping Dealer for months, calling it “the biggest smash I’ve heard in years” on his Rocket Hour show. Spoiler: it didn’t smash the charts, but Lola’s got a whole new PR campaign — and possibly a new address.

Her new album I’m Only F–king Myself dropped September 19, featuring Dealer and One Thing, which actually charted decently in the U.K. If Lola keeps climbing, she won’t just be borrowing Elton’s house — she might be the next name filling arenas while the Rocket Man enjoys retirement naps in Versace pajamas.

As for Elton? Let’s not feel too sorry for him. The man could lose ten more houses and still have enough left over to build an emerald castle shaped like his glasses. Still, seeing an icon pay up on a ridiculous bet is the kind of rock-n-roll nonsense we live for.

And speaking of live music — no, Elton won’t be playing your local pub this weekend. But plenty of artists are. Download the Static Live Music Calendar App and find out who’s playing near Daytona, Ormond, New Smyrna, and Flagler (with more cities coming soon). You might not get free house keys, but you will get great shows.
