In tribute to the iconic Random Access Memories‘ decade-long legacy, Daft Punk is set to launch a unique drum-free edition of the album on Nov. 17. Daft Punk unveiled the exciting news on Thursday (Sept. 28), teasing fans with a hint of what’s to come. For a taste, they’ve released a track, “Within,” stripped of its drums, emphasizing Chilly Gonzalez’s haunting piano melodies. Originally released in May 2013, Random Access Memories made a splash, securing the top spot on the Billboard 200 and maintaining its position on the chart for 56 weeks. Furthermore, it clinched the prestigious Grammy for Album of the Year in 2014. To mark the album’s tenth anniversary, an enriched edition was introduced, featuring nine bonus tracks and clocking in an additional 35 minutes of content, including unseen demos and studio snippets. Fans purchasing the CD will find a 20-page digital booklet, whereas the vinyl enthusiasts will be treated to a special “Lose Yourself to Dance” poster and a 16-page booklet.
The festivities don’t stop there. The Memory Tapes series has been chronicling reflections from album contributors such as Julian Casablancas, Chilly Gonzales, DJ Falcon, and Todd Edwards. Further episodes spotlighting the likes of Pharrell Williams, Nile Rodgers, and Paul Williams along with Chris Caswell are in the pipeline.
