We hate to break it to you, but if some shady “music exec” just promised to get you on Billboard in exchange for some Bitcoin… congrats, you’ve met your first scammer. And these fools aren’t even trying to be subtle about it anymore.
The con artists have leveled up, this time straight-up impersonating Billboard Magazine, using fake sites like musicpromobillboard.com/login
and emails like info@billboard.technology
—which, for the record, is about as real as Milli Vanilli’s live vocals.
And in true scammer fashion, they’re preying on independent musicians who are just trying to get some shine. These phonies are promising “official coverage” or “print features” if you hand over some crypto via sketchy payment portals. But here’s the truth:
Billboard will never ask you to pay for press.
And they sure as hell don’t want your Bitcoin.
This isn’t a new hustle, either. Fake “writers” have been DMing up-and-coming artists for years, swiping bios from real contributors and pretending to be connected. So if someone slides into your inbox offering a Billboard cover story for $300 in USDT, don’t walk—run.
If you have been scammed, head over to the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) and file a report. And in the meantime, remember: if it smells like a scam, it probably is.
