Coldplay shared a heartfelt salute to Elton John, marking the end of his legendary Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour in Sweden.
John’s impressive live career, spanning over five decades, culminated at Stockholm’s Tele2 Arena on Saturday (July 8). Simultaneously, Coldplay, performing in Gothenburg, Sweden, rendered a virtual tribute at John’s concert to celebrate the iconic artist.
Chris Martin and his crew offered a stirring rendition of “Rocket Man”, after which Martin delivered a touching tribute, acknowledging John’s exceptional career.
“Elton, on behalf of all of us, all the artists, all the bands you’ve loved, inspired, and supported, we just love you so much,” expressed Martin. “We’re profoundly thankful for your contributions to us, the AIDS Foundation, for your kindness, for your advocacy for the LGBTQ community, for your influence on fashion and eyewear, and your impact on music.”
John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour kicked off in September 2018 in North America and covered a whopping 330 concerts worldwide. In January, it was declared the highest-grossing tour in Billboard Boxscore history, surpassing Ed Sheeran’s The Divide Tour. As of mid-June, the tour has amassed a staggering $910.4 million, making it the first-ever tour to cross the $900 million threshold. In recognition, John received an award from Billboard for having the top-grossing tour of all time.
Before the tour’s final song, “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”, John reflected on his extraordinary musical journey. He thanked the fans for their unwavering support over the years and expressed his gratitude for the wonderful career he has enjoyed.
