The relentless blaze propelled by Hurricane Dora has left Maui, particularly the town of Lahaina, in ruins. The wildfire has consumed over 2,000 acres, causing the death of 55 individuals and erasing nearly 1,700 structures from the face of the island.
The Governor, Josh Green, declared this catastrophe to be the “most massive natural disaster Hawaii has ever encountered.” Among the ruins stands the charred remains of Mick Fleetwood’s renowned restaurant, Fleetwood’s. The Fleetwood Mac co-founder, who has called Maui home for decades, took to Instagram, expressing his distress over the loss but emphasized the safety of his staff and team.
However, Fleetwood isn’t the only celebrity affected or moved by the disaster. Stars, some with close ties to the island, have poured out their emotions and calls for assistance for the traumatized inhabitants. This includes heartfelt sentiments from Bette Midler, former President Barack Obama, Jason Momoa, Jack Johnson, and the rock band, Pearl Jam, who’ve initiated fundraising efforts.
