A racist parody targeted the popular Korean boy band BTS which triggered international backlash this past weekend. The groups’ fans were outraged, including many others that with the rise in Asian Hate crimes & Anti-Asian speech around the world.
BTS has one of the largest & most passionate fanbases in the world, and they proved that when this parody went public. The fans used social media to defend the group against these tasteless & racist jokes by shining light on the larger issues of Anti-Asian Racism.
The BTS band has not officially commented on the parody video, but they did release a statement back in March about increased attacks against Asians, around the world.
The group said, “We recall moments when we faced discrimination as Asians. We have endured expletives without reason and were mocked for the way we look. We were even asked why Asians spoke in English.”
