After a captivating performance of the Broadway musical ‘Here Lies Love’, conceptualized by David Byrne and Fatboy Slim, audiences can now keep their dancing shoes on a bit longer. Starting this Saturday, October 7, the musical, held at the chic Club Millennium, will introduce the People Power Disco Hour, a series of post-show DJ sets.
Turning the Broadway Theater into a dance enthusiast’s dream, the post-show dance fest will commence with a 50-minute jam session. This new series gets its debut with DJ CherishTheLuv, co-producer of ‘Here Lies Love’ and a proud Filipina American from New York City. Her set will follow the 8 p.m. performance to mark Filipino American History Month.
Being the first-ever female DJ on Broadway, CherishTheLuv expressed her excitement, “Receiving the mantle from Fatboy Slim and stepping into this role is truly an honor. For me, dancing with purpose and raising awareness is the best kind of activism! Get ready for NYC’s freshest dance vibes.”
Post-show DJ nights are also scheduled for October 12, 19, 25, and 31, with the lineup of guest DJs to be unveiled soon. This initiative comes after an exhilarating DJ session by Fatboy Slim on August 31, post a ‘Here Lies Love’ showcase.
‘Here Lies Love’ offers a unique immersive experience. Set in a disco ambiance, it narrates the intriguing narrative of the Philippines’ Marcos regime and its enigmatic first lady, Imelda Marcos. Significantly, this musical boasts the first-ever all-Filipino cast to grace the Broadway stage.
Drawing inspiration from Byrne, Fatboy Slim recently shared with Billboard, “Collaborating with David Byrne on this musical years ago was a turning point for me. That experience truly shaped my journey, steering me towards diverse ventures outside of music.
