The latest episode of Saturday Night Live, hosted by Timothée Chalamet on November 11, brought a unique spin to Britney Spears’ memoir, “The Woman in Me.” While the actual audiobook was narrated by Michelle Williams, SNL’s sketch humorously revealed a host of other celebrities who supposedly auditioned for the role.
In the sketch, SNL’s Chloe Fineman impeccably imitated the pop icon, expressing her gratitude for the memoir’s success. “I’m overwhelmed that ‘The Woman in Me’ topped the New York Times bestseller list,” Fineman’s Spears stated. “Michelle Williams did an incredible job narrating my audiobook, yet there were many others keen to read it. Let’s take a look at these auditions.”
The parody featured a hilarious lineup of impersonated celebrities auditioning for the role. Among them were Ice Spice (portrayed by Punkie Johnson), Fred Schneider from The B-52s (Bowen Yang), famed director Martin Scorsese (Chalamet himself), Ego Nwodim as Jada Pinkett Smith, astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson (Kenan Thompson), daredevil Steve-O (Mikey Day), and Natasha Lyonne (Fineman again).
One notable audition included Yang’s Schneider, who, in true B-52s fashion, sang about Spears’ relationship with her sister, Jamie Lynn. Nwodim’s Pinkett Smith also humorously attempted to plug her own book, “Worthy,” before being reminded she was reading from the wrong memoir.
Spears’ memoir, “The Woman in Me,” saw incredible success, selling 1.1 million copies in its initial week. The memoir, released on October 24, dives deep into Spears’ journey to stardom, her famous relationship with Justin Timberlake, and her challenging experience under a 13-year conservatorship.
Britney Spears herself took to Twitter to express her gratitude, saying, “Thank you to all the fans who made #TheWomanInMe a #1 @nytimes bestseller. It means the world to me !!! Love you all [three kiss emoji] !!!”
