This apology came after the Puerto Rican icon seemed to take a jab at Styles during his groundbreaking headlining show at Coachella 2023’s opening weekend on April 14. As Bad Bunny performed “El Apagón” from his chart-topping album Un Verano Sin Ti, a screen behind him displayed a tweet about Styles, stating, “goodnight benito might pull it off, but harry could never do el apagaon.”
Following the incident, a spokesperson for Bad Bunny informed Rolling Stone that the singer had no comment, emphasizing that Benito had not endorsed the tweet’s message. Sturdy.co, the company responsible for the visuals during Bad Bunny’s performance, also confirmed that the artist did not approve the tweet and claimed that they had no intention of slighting the British singer-actor.
Last week, the rapper-singer made history as Coachella’s first-ever solo Latino headliner, during which he shared a candid message about the reality of celebrity life. “With all humility, people think they understand the lives of famous individuals, but they don’t,” he addressed the audience. “They’re unaware of our emotions and experiences.”
He continued, “They’ll never grasp the depths of a heart’s emotions. Don’t trust everything you hear. You won’t truly know me through an Instagram video, an interview, or a TikTok.” Bad Bunny’s second-weekend performance at Coachella featured collaborations with Jhay Cortez, Arcangel, Jowell & Randy, Grupo Frontera, and Jose Feliciano. Before his set, Bunny made a surprise appearance with Gorillaz for a joint performance of their track “Tormenta.”
