Arcade Fire just reminded us all why they’re still the indie-rock freakshow we can’t stop watching.
The band has officially announced their seventh studio album Pink Elephant, and let’s just say, it sounds like the name of a psychedelic cocktail you regret drinking—but also can’t stop ordering. Set to drop May 9, this album is packing 10 new tracks recorded at Win Butler and Régine Chassagne’s Good News Recording Studio down in New Orleans (because of course, they’d have a studio called that).
The first single, “Year of the Snake,” dropped today—and it’s moody, melodic, and makes you feel like you’re floating through a neon-lit dreamscape at 2AM. Win and Régine’s vocals twirl around a thumping bass line like two ghosts slow dancing in a thunderstorm. We’re not crying—you are.
And get this: the band says the album explores “light, darkness, inner beauty, and the perception of the individual.” So basically, it’s an existential acid trip wrapped in a flaming elephant-shaped candle. No, seriously—that’s the cover art.
Here’s the full Pink Elephant tracklist:
- Open Your Heart or Die Trying
- Pink Elephant
- Year of the Snake
- Circle of Trust
- Alien Nation
- Beyond Salvation
- Ride or Die
- I Love Her Shadow
- She Cries Diamond Rain
- Stuck in My Head
But that’s not all—Arcade Fire also launched a new fan experience app called Circle of Trust (which sounds a little cult-y but we’re intrigued). Inside, fans can unlock early access to tickets, exclusive content, and a bonus track titled “Cars and Telephones”—which apparently was the first song Win ever played for Régine. Awww. Emo-core meets romance-core.
Now, before you ask—no, they haven’t been announced for Welcome to Rockville yet, but hey, we’re putting that out into the universe right now. Because after seeing this energy, Arcade Fire would absolutely light up Daytona’s speedway stage with their theatrical rock chaos.
And speaking of Rockville… you can win tickets to this year’s Welcome to Rockville right now in the Static Live Music Calendar App. Just download the app at StaticLive.app and check the giveaways tab to enter. It’s free, fast, and exactly the kind of mayhem we like to support.
