Apple Music is embarking on a new venture, ‘Lost & Found,’ aimed at showcasing country songwriters and unearthing a selection of previously unreleased tracks. The series brings to life six demo tracks (the “Lost”) by having them reinterpreted and recorded by a mix of established and emerging country artists (the “Found”).
Kicking off this initiative is Jelly Roll, celebrated for hits like “Need a Favor” and “Son of a Sinner.” He takes center stage with his rendition of “Dragging These Roots,” penned by songwriters Ben Hayslip, Josh Thompson, and Jesse Frasure. The Apple Music team first came across this gem in 2019.
Jelly Roll expressed his enthusiasm about the project to Apple Music, stating, “As soon as Apple Music pitched the idea, I immediately connected with Frasure via FaceTime from their listening room to confirm my interest in the song. I’m deeply grateful to Apple Music for spotlighting these creators and their exceptional talents.”
Frasure, too, shared his excitement, mentioning, “It’s thrilling that this ‘lost’ song was ‘found’ by Jelly Roll. This is one of my favorite co-creations, and I had always hoped it would come into the spotlight someday. Having a dear friend and one of my preferred artists, Jelly Roll, be the one to bring it to life is the cherry on top. The studio session was a blast, and he brought so much heart to the track. I’m eagerly awaiting its release!”
Apple Music is also introducing Lost & Found Radio, a monthly radio show hosted by hit songwriter Lori McKenna, renowned for writing chart-toppers like Tim McGraw’s “Humble and Kind” and Little Big Town’s “Girl Crush.” Each episode will delve deep into the backstory and creative process of each song, featuring input from the original songwriters, studio musicians, producers, and the artists recording the tracks.
The highlight of the Lost & Found series will be a live radio episode co-hosted by Apple Music Country host Kelleigh Bannen. The show will air on Tuesday (July 25) at 2 p.m. CT, featuring the songwriters whose works are being brought to life in the Lost & Found series. A special live broadcast for Lost & Found will also be aired on Tuesday (July 25) at noon CT.
Lost & Found will have its own dedicated space on Apple Music where listeners can find playlists featuring the lost demos, the newly discovered singles, the Lost & Found Radio show episodes, and playlists curated by participating songwriters.
Expressing her delight, McKenna stated, “Being a part of this initiative and hosting the companion radio show on Apple Music Country is an incredible opportunity. Every songwriter has a treasure trove of lost songs. Apple’s effort to resurrect these near-hits and provide a platform for the writers and the stories behind these songs is truly exciting.”
Adding to this, Bannen, the host of Apple Music Country, said, “At Apple Music, we are devoted to celebrating artists and creators. Lost & Found reflects our commitment to supporting songwriters and uncovering a wealth of undiscovered music, a mission that we uphold not just in Nashville, but globally. We’re thrilled about continuing this journey and inviting talented artists to collaborate with us in unique ways like this.”
