Over the years there have been many debates about history’s greatest rock bands. There is no debate that this month’s cover band can easily be considered one of the top 10 greatest rock ‘n roll bands of all time. Considering they made their first albums as mere teenagers and still tour as a band is not only a sign of greatness but longevity as well. The number of hits is staggering and many of those hits can be heard around the world as anthems for sporting events and TV commercials. No doubt, they will go down as one of the greatest rock bands ever. Here’s a little more about AC/DC and why they will continue to be legends for eternity.
AC/DC are an Australian rock band formed in Sydney by Scottish-born brothers Malcolm and Angus Young. Their music has been described by others as hard rock, blues rock and heavy metal but the band themselves simply call it “rock and roll”.
The band underwent several line-up changes before releasing their first album, High Voltage, in 1975. The band’s membership stabilized with the Young brothers, singer Bon Scott, drummer Phil Rudd and bassist Mark Evans. Evans was fired from the band in 1977 and replaced by Cliff Williams, who has appeared on every AC/DC album since Powerage in 1978. About seven months after the release of breakthrough album Highway to Hell, Scott died of acute alcohol poisoning after a night of heavy drinking. The group considered disbanding but ultimately stayed together, bringing longtime Geordie vocalist Brian Johnson as Scott’s replacement. Later that year, the band released their first album with Johnson, Back in Black, which was dedicated to Scott’s memory and launched AC/DC to new heights and became one of the best-selling albums of all time.
They are looking to tour again in 2022 and will surely set more records in ticket and record sales.
